About Little Farmers

Little Farmer's is a project formulated by our Florida Southern College ENACTUS team.
Our Roots

In 2014, FSC ENACTUS started Fresh Access Bucks in Lakeland, Florida. This project made it possible for the Lakeland Downtown Farmer's Market to accept Electronic Benefit Transactions. Since the project's implementation, the market has attracted new vendors, maintained business with current vendors, the market can accept funds from those on government assistance, and the project has become fully sustainable.

In light of the success with the FAB project at the farmer's market, FSC ENACTUS wanted to continue making the lives of their local community healthier. FSC ENACTUS found that Lakeland's childhood obesity rate was at 74%; higher than the Florida average of 68%. Thus inspiring our Little Farmer's Project where FSC ENACTUS will provide nutrition education to improve the health of families in the community through their children.

Branching Off
Level 2: Little Entrepreneurs

Once the produce begins to sprout in their gardens, FSC ENACTUS will teach business methods so that they can successfully sell their produce at the Lakeland Downtown Farmer's Market. Students will learn how to make simple transactions and provide change, advertising techniques, revenue and expenses, and more.

Level 1: Little Farmers

Partnering with Rosabelle W. Blake Academy, FSC ENACTUS will be hosting an after school club open to 2nd through 8th grade students. Being that Polk County is 'all about farming', the club will teach students the importance of farming and healthy eating through lessons and hands-on experiments. To further interest and educate them on proper nutrition, FSC ENACTUS students will assist the students in refurbishing and cultivating a garden using natural techniques on their campus to show where their food originates.
