After the first semester of the Little Farmer's Club the FSC Enactus team has learned plenty. The students had a lot of fun and only want more in the fall. They were able to grow plants and take some home, however, one semester was not enough time to grow enough produce to sell.
They did successfully grow arugula and some green bell peppers which they were all excited about. They tried arugula for the first time and had an interesting experience. Some loved it; others, not so much.
When they learned the business portion, we split them up into who wanted to work on marketing and who wanted to work on finances. The students in marketing loved creating posters while the finance group enjoyed practice problems to calculate costs, revenues, and profits or losses. The finance students were so proud of what they learned and what they could do that some continued making their own practice problems and showed their parents at home!
This coming semester the team is going to use what they've learned to improve the teaching and the club overall. FSC Enactus is to present the project to Kappa Delta Pi, the international Education Fraternity at Florida Southern College, in hopes that they would be willing to take the project as their own to better teach these bright students.
